Environmentally Sustainable Cabins

Carawirry Cabins & Wildlife Refuge is the perfect example of how people can co-exist with nature in harmony, there can be a rewarding balance. There are many things that make us Eco Friendly ; such as the cabins are situated IN the trees not in a cleared paddock, the cabins just blend in and this has minimal impact on the surrounding wildlife.

We use environmentally friendly cleaning products, fluorescent energy saving light fittings on nearly all fittings, there are no air-conditioners (all round verandas keep cabin cool), we provide garbage sorting bins and mulch bins to encourage recycling, the cabins are heated in winter by slow combustion wood heaters and fire wood is collected off the Nature Reserve or State Forest from fallen dead trees, or logging waste , the water supply for the cabins comes off the cabin gutters.

We encouraging you to experience the importance of nature conservation and its rewards. There is information in each cabin about the refuge and we maintain approximately 10km of bush walks on the property for you to explore. The best way to help people understand the importance of preserving our natural environment, is to enable you to be close enough to the forest for it to help you relax and relieve your stresses. Nature's rewards far out way its destruction in aid of progress.

The Future aim of Carawirry Cabins & Wildlife Refuge is to "continue to manage the property as an Uneven Aged native forest structure to provide maximum native vegetation and habitat values for wildlife."

Dungog District Chamber of Commerce held their 2007 awards night on Saturday the 19th May . The "Golden Axe Award" covered 3 separate categories: 1- Award for Bush Carpentry,Joinery and Axe skills, 2- Environmentally Sustainable Business practices and 3-Environmental Restoration and conservation.

The "Environmentally Sustainable Business Practices" award was sponsored by Tilly's play and development center and was won by Carawirry Cabins. The overall Inaugural Golden Axe Award was donated by Fran Crane and also won by Carawirry Cabins.

We believe that the best way we can help with the many problems of climate change is to give people access to nature and the forests. We provide not just cozy cabin accommodation that allows you to get in touch with nature and in most cases yourself while generating an appreciation for the surrounds of the forest but also walking trails and information about the surrounding nature.
